DESCRIPTION OF THE AREA

Ballater is the nearest town to Balmoral Castle, the summer retreat of the British Royal Family.
Ballater is in the Cairngorms National Park and is an excellent base from which to tour the area and take part in the outdoor activities available; golf, skiing, hiking, walking, cycling, fishing, shooting, stalking are all popular or simply just relax in the tranquil surroundings.

Highland Games

Highland Games events are held throughout the summer months in Scotland. They are a way of celebrating Scottish culture and heritage and are a must see addition to any Scottish holiday. The local Ballater Games are held in mid August and the world famous Braemar Gathering, attended by the royal family, is held on the first weekend in September. Cycling

Ballater is surrounded by terrain suitable for all abilities from easy forest trails to mountain track descents. If you wish to hire bikes there are two professional bike hire shops within walking distance of the apartment.

Golf

There are over 50 great courses in Aberdeenshire which range from stunning links courses to parkland venues catering for both the novice and the experienced golfer. Ballater Golf Club is within walking distance of this apartment and welcomes visitors. It is an 18 hole medium length course best described as heathland with stunning views.

Fishing

The Dee which runs alongside the apartment is one of the world’s great salmon rivers. The 2015 salmon fishing season runs from 2nd February to 30th September. There are several trout fisheries in the area the closest of which is Tullich Fishery about 2 miles east of Ballater. It has 2 lochs stocked with rainbow trout and is open all year.
